My guess is not many, in fact I would guess that most of you don't even know anyone who has scored an ace. Well would you believe that two golfer from the same foursome both scored a hole-in-one on the same hole? It happened in San Diego at the Bernardo Heights Country Club and was confirmed, along with two rounds of free drinks.

A 2000 Golf Digest study calculated the odds of two golfers in the same foursome acing the same hole at 17 million to one. Golf Shirts, hats, clubs and most of TV ad sales will all see spikes in the months that follow the Masters week. If you want proof you need only look at Google Trends in the next two months for proof. In fact if you checked today it was already trending at #1.

Let's face it, for all of you that burned your Tiger Woods Golf Shirts and tossed your Nike balls in the pond beside your church; the PGA needs Tiger Woods, the television networks and their advertiser need him and so do the fans of Golf.

Thanks for showing us that no one person is perfect and for bringing to light the word "transgressions". As each day passes your story gets more compounded and more convoluted as the trash media feeds the mainstream media and the line between the two seem to be shrinking unlike the line up of women who have come forward claiming to be your long lost lover.

Now, I don't own any Tiger Woods Golf Shirts or hats, nor do I have any Nike clubs in my bag. If I did I wouldn't be selling them on Ebay like the chat show callers have said they have been doing. We are in a recession so I highly doubt that is happening anyway. What happens in your personal life wont sway me either way to buying or not buying your merch, I don't judge. You don`t owe the world or the media an explanation or a live appearance with the mighty Oprah.

What you do owe us is to play the game like only you can. Being a sports celebrity probably doesn't allow you to separate your private life from your professional life. So it will remain to be seen what damage this will take on your game play and I can imagine that your first PGA event will be the most widely watched sports cast in 2010.

regards,

Hitting a long ball of a distance like 250 yards takes power, flexibility and balance. Now imagine having only one leg and doing that?

You have to see Manuel De Los Santos, a one legged golfer from the Dominican Republic, playing in the Alfred Dunhill Championship at St Andrews. This is absolutely amazing and a great inspiration to anyone else watching this who knows how difficult the game of golf is. So for all you negative thinkers out there, if you think you can make it happen, you will make it happen.

The official logo that will adorn 2010 Olympic clothing sold by the Hudson's Bay
Company was unveiled last Thursday. I was actually quite stunned at how bland and conservative this logo is. I would think that there would be a lot of thought and money that is put into the design of this logo considering it will be on the worlds stage and we are the host Country. This is what is to inspire and make our Athletes feel proud and wear the uniform that will represent their country in the 2010 winter Olympics, ikes. It seems so bleak and easy; dare I say boring. I really wished they had pulled more influences from our Canadian landscape and our diverse cultures. They said this was supposed to be a "timeless design" but I think they went for 70's retro, which has been done to death.

I'm not saying we need yet another Moose or Mountie in our branding, we have enough cliché stereotypes to last an eternity. Should this logo be so simplistic and minimalist?? I don't think the Olympics is the time for that. When Roots had this contract, they used vibrant and relevant color, the clothing was fun and sporty with a hint of retro and it sold extremely well.

I will support our athletes as always, but I'll sporting Golf Cult Clothing.

Ryan Moore - The new breed

Ryan Moore won his first career PGA Tour event at the Wyndham Championship and I have to say I like how this cat rolls, I like his style and I like what he's done here. So what or who is Golf Cult? We are the many new followers that love the game of Golf, we respect it’s traditions, it’s rules and rich history. We also love to be ourselves off and on the course, freedom to express our individual style.

Does being different bring disruption?? Absolutely not, this is the new face of Golf, the emerging demographic of ball smashing hipsters, we want to bring our styles to the course and back on to the street.

I want to thank a few pro’s though for helping to pave the way for individuality on the course.

Payne Stewart: The late and great, he mixed the extreme old school styles with Knickers, long sox and his poor boy hat, always the class act and always brought attention by the way he was dressed.
Jesper Parnevic: with his flipped hats, tapered vibrantly colored pants and slim fit tops, he was often the target of remarks from network sport casters for being so distinctive and eccentric.
Ian Poulter: Very fashionable, a hit with the ladies for his funky hair and equally funky yet classic line of clothing.
Tiger Woods: Broke many barriers turning pro and winning week after week we also changed the face of golf forever. His style has always been sporty, sometimes opting to wear shirts with no colars and everyone knows that if Tiger is playing Sunday he is no doubt in his signature color “Victory Red”.

Now the pro’s all have major clothing sponsors, some wear their own designs and some have a hand in what they wear, but now there is no shortage of new Golf clothing to suit all tastes, I hope Golf Cult will become a new choice for you.

The Masters Marketing Machine

Wow! is what I have to say about the 2009 Masters tournament. This is one of Golfs biggest events and truly did not disappoint.
What I also noticed was the mediums by which one could get updates and information for the entire week. One of the many tools in my arsenal was Twitter and the use of www.tweetdeck.com (you can follow me on twitter of course here ) to get the most up to the minute updates on scores and inside scoops from the players themselves courtesy of PGA Golf and a few other devoted “tweeters”.
There are scores of Golf blogs and websites devoted to the tour, video and photo update are abundant so you would never have to miss the action from your desk.

One of the most interesting marketing emails I got was from one of Canada’s largest Golf retail stores, my wife subscribed to their mailing list, probably to make sure she always has a birthday gift idea for me at all times. What they had was a offering from Nike on Wednesday before the Masters got underway and it showed you what Tiger was going to wear for the Masters over the following 4 days and of course how much they cost and how to order it online. There were the usual up-sells, Nike balls, Gloves, Hats and Shoes, I must say that was very well played.

They say the numbers for TV viewership were down this year but when they see the highlight real and realize what an amazing Sunday that played out was they will be back inn stronger numbers next year.

Tiger…… Rise

What a Sunday, sure I had a ton of work to do but with Tiger on the prowl with only a 5 shot deficit I know this was going to be close. It came right down to the wire and just before he made the winning putt some punk in the crowd yelled “It’s in the hole” so Tiger backed off, composed himself and lined the putt up again and the rest as they say will truly be history.

So I wonder what the odds makers have in place for the up coming Masters? Phil Mickelson will be back in action and a full line up of young guns looking to slow this momentum down. I don’t care what the haters say, Tiger is good for the game of Golf, it brings excitement and much needed ratings to the telecasts and I’m sure the advertisers will smile a little wider.
